Keeping things organized can be a bit of a challenge when you are clumsy and disorganized. Yes, I admit that it makes life simpler, but it’s so tiring and boring. Right?
But that doesn’t mean your Mac has to suffer the same. Keeping things organized on computers is definitely a challenge for clumsy people. And the ones who have a messy computer and say, “I have a system for everything.” Let me clear that up for you. The thing you call system is known as poor organization skills which you need to change as soon as possible. Because that’s a necessity since it might hamper your day-to-day activities. So, it has to end now!
Here are some of the system organizing tips and tricks that worked for various others and will definitely help you in the long run. Here we go!
-
Keep separate folders for everything.
This is the one thing that can work best if you want to keep your computer organized like a pro. It’s time to classify the data according to their requirement and put them in separate folders. This way you can keep your files categorized according to your choice and requirement.
For example, you can make a folder labeled “Vacation” and make subfolders such as “Miami” or “Florida” and transfer the pictures accordingly. This way, whenever you need a photo of a particular memory or vacation, you know exactly where to find it.
It will take time initially to make separate folders and transfer the respective data, but it will all be worth the effort later on.
-
Delete unwanted files
Keeping junk files on your system takes up unnecessary space on the hard disk and is the main reason why your PC is showing some abnormal and annoying buffering signs. It is better to get rid of them or store them on external hard drives.
Not many people know this, but those duplicate pictures that you have on your system are also a part of the clutter that needs to be removed immediately. So, it is better that you locate and remove them to make some extra space on the hard drive.
There are a lot of other unwanted things, such as caches and cookies, that need your immediate attention. These temporary files store your online data and hoard space on your hard drive and do not let the computer function properly.
-
Use iCloud
Mac owners might be familiar with an incredible function provided by Apple, which is known as iCloud. You can actually store your data online. But wait, I haven’t gotten to the best part yet. By storing your data on iCloud, you can access it through any Apple device of your choice. It also creates a concrete backup of your files so that you don’t lose any of your data. That’s really great!
For example, if you’re going to store your pictures and videos on iCloud, you can save so much space on your Mac. Plus, everything will be in its original size, so you wouldn’t have to worry about your media files’ pixels and resolutions.
All you need is a good Wi-fi/internet connection to back up your data on iCloud. It can be done either automatically or manually, depending upon your convenience.

Give close attention to your desktop.
How many times have you gotten those judgy looks with that cluttered desktop? I am sure many. But that doesn’t mean it has to stay that way. It’s high time to delete that movie that is there on your desktop for ages. You need to categorize the items according to your needs and requirements.
Delete the ones that are of no use, and align the ones that you really need. And there could be some apps or files that you might use occasionally; you can make separate folders for them and place them as per your requirement. Now you just need to choose the perfect wallpaper for your desktop. You are all done.

Use Finder to create “smart folders.”
God bless the one who came up with the idea of “Finder” in Mac. Did you know that you can create folders that gather similar files together by recognizing their category? Yes, that’s possible. These folders are known as smart folders.
For example, suppose you made a file/document for work and saved it somewhere in your system. And then you made another one similar to it. The folder will recognize them and put them into one place regardless of their original location.
In simple words, the files will still be in their original locations, but Smart Folders makes them easier to organize and access all in one place. That’s really convenient for you and your messed-up system. You can easily find these folders in the sidebar of your Finder.
If you have no idea about how to create these folders in Finder, we’ve got that covered too. You just need to follow the series of steps mentioned below.
- Click on “File”
- Select “New Smart Folder”
- A window will appear with a search field in it. That’s the place where you start adding the category or the searching criteria to keep your files organized in the system.
For example, you need to create a smart folder containing all the pictures in your system. You can search for the related criteria and add them to the folder. With the help of the “+” button, you can even add other criteria and categories as well. That was easy!
Wrapping Up!
Good organization skills aren’t something that can come easy to you. You need to work really hard to manage everything. And when it comes to organizing appliances and computers, things might get tricky. Your 13-year-old niece might be able to organize her PC better than you. You need to stay focused and stick with your organizing pattern, and everything will be sorted, just the way you always wanted.
Hopefully, these organizing tips mentioned above will help you to keep everything on your PC and in your life organized. Trust me; if these things worked for me, it could work for everyone, literally.
